HFL was established in 1988 as a result of Dempo Group’s foray into the FMCG segment through a joint venture with Glaxo India Limited, with the objective of manufacturing nutritional food products.

In 2013, Vanity Case Group bought a controlling stake in Hindustan Foods Limited from Dempo Group of Goa and since then the company has diversified across various FMCG categories with manufacturing competencies in food and non-food, extending to Personal Care, Home Care, Food & Beverages, Leather Shoes and Accessories.

It intends to continue leveraging the India’s consumption story through organic and inorganic expansion.

Our journey at a glance

1988-2013

One factory, one brand

  • Hindustan Foods Limited [HFL] was established in 1988 as a joint venture with Glaxo India Limited. For 25 years, it was operating as a single factory, single brand company, manufacturing limited SKUs’ of Farex in Goa.

2013-2016

Vanity Case Group takes over HFL

  • In 2013, the Vanity Case Group bought a controlling stake in HFL. Vanity Case was already an established contract manufacturer of FMCG products for over two decades then, headed by Mr Sameer Kothari.
  • The existing capacity of the Goa plant was doubled from 3000 tpa to 6000 tpa
  • The Company entered into a Supply & Manufacturing agreement with Danone. It also added PepsiCo and Marico to it’s clients list.
  • Preferential issue of equity shares to Promoters and PE Fund, Sixth Sense Ventures.

2017

Jammu Acquisition

  • Acquired Pest Control products plant from Reckitt Benckiser (India) Limited.
  • Entered into manufacturing & supply agreement with RBIPL for Pest Control products.
  • Started manufacturing and packing of liquid vaporisers, aerosols, coils and fast cards.

Puducherry Acquisition

  • Took over Hindustan Unilever’s leather shoes making business, Ponds Exports Limited in Puducherry.
  • Started manufacturing for legacy clients of Ponds Exports Limited like TBS, Gabor, Richter.
  • In addition, successfully added new brands like U.S. Polo, Steve Madden, Hush Puppies and Arrow.

2018

Hyderabad Acquisition

  • HFL acquired a factory from the Vanity Case Group in Hyderabad manufacturing Detergent Powder for Hindustan Unilever.

Greenfield project in Coimbatore

  • The Company constructed one of the largest factories in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu to blend and pack tea, coffee and other hot beverages for Hindustan Unilever.
  • Commercial production began in the same year.

Mumbai Acquisition

  • The company took over a 40 year old company manufacturing shoes for High Street brands like Dune, Saks 5th Avenue, Office, etc.
  • The company set up a shoe manufacturing facility in Vasai, Maharashtra.

2019

Hyderabad Expansion

  • The Board sanctioned a brownfield project of setting up liquid detergent unit at Hyderabad, for Hindustan Unilever.
  • Commercial Production began in 2019.

Mysuru Acquisition

  • The Company acquired ATC Beverages [P] Limited which was engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of beverages like carbonated soft drinks, juices and energy drinks.

Fund raise

  • HFL raised funds from Convergent Finance and Sixth Sense Ventures.

2020

CoVid-19

  • The most impressing occurrence of the year has to be the coronavirus. It could well be the most significant event of our lifetime. While most commercial and personal existences were affected by the virus and the lockdowns following it, HFL came out stronger, more adaptable, more resilient. We pursued opportunities in the most difficult times. From effortlessly shifting to virtual work environments to making eco-friendly decisions, from building a plant in the thick of the covid lock-downs to creating solutions for a constantly changing business landscape, and from growing each and every single day, quarantine or not, we have sailed ahead – swiftly and surely. We cannot predict what’s in store, but what we can most certainly do is keep our focus determinedly in the present, as we confidently advance towards an optimistic future.

Disinfectant Toilet Cleaner & Surface Cleaner Plants in Silvassa

  • The Company reconstructed an exclusive plant in Silvassa for Reckitt Benckiser to manufacture their Disinfectant Toilet Cleaner brand. The facility was built in 7 months of the lockdown period. Commercial production started in October 2020, with a 100KL/day capacity.
  • The Company is building another plant to manufacture Surface Cleaning Liquid Plant for Reckitt Benckiser, scheduled to commence commercial production in March 2021.

Bath Soaps & Detergent Bars in Hyderabad

  • Project work commences for manufacturing of Bath Soaps and Detergent Bars in Hyderabad.

Merger of Malt Beverages plants with HFL begins

  • Commenced merger of Malt Beverages making plant in Coimbatore for Hindustan Unilever.

Greenfield project in North India

  • The Company announced a capex of Rs 125 crores via its wholly owned subsidiary to set up a F&B facility in Uttar Pradesh.

2021

Personal Care/Home Care in Mysuru

  • The Company has started building a Personal Care / Home Care plant in Mysuru. This will be a first shared facility and will offer shared manufacturing to Brands looking at sourcing and expanding their footprint in South India.

Greenfield project in North India

  • The Company acquired land for the new F&B project in UP. Project work has begun and commercial production is expected in Q4FY22

Credit Rating Upgradation

  • India Ratings upgraded Long-term issuer rating to ‘IND A’ with Positive Outlook.
